NICOLÁS CHIESA
He began his carrer at Asociación Atlética Argentinos Juniors from Argentina but he formed his more importants achivements in the italian fourth division (LND Serie D). He played 9 championships and won 5.
He was an offensive and creative midfielder, noted not only for his technical abilities and his goalscorer capacity, also for his developed vision and game reading.
On his last period as player he moved his game to the BOV Premier League Malta and he gave back the glory to Floriana F.C. winning the F.A. Trophy as the captain of the team.
In 2017 the Floriana’s President Riccardo Gaucci, had another proposal to Nicolás Chiesa. He wanted continue with the Chiesa’s leadership but from outside of the pitch. He saw in Chiesa a new role: HEAD COACH.
Again Nicolás knew to trasmit his identity to the team and won a new title: The BOV Malta Supercup.
Whit that experience finished, he started to work at Club Atlético Boca Juniors as Scouting Head in the Nicolás Burdisso’s Staff.
Living at his native Argentina, faithfull to his footbal ideas and with a winning mindset typical of those who make history, he has shared us his opinion and vision about the goalkeeper’s position.
Thanks a lot Nicolás!
"MY VISION ABOUT OF THE GOALKEEPER'S POSITION"
The goalkeeper is so important in a football team. With him the offensive phase starts and with him the defensive phase finishes. He is the first attacker and the last defender. Our first resource to score and the last one to keep the “0” in our goal.
Offensively, he has the leading role at the beginning of each action, understanding the moments of each match (timing). It must be effective and accurate on long passes, whether in search of our highest player or in search of our fastest player to attack the deep space.
Although the ideal would be to actively participate in the construction of the game, I am adapted to the skills of the goalkeeper I have. From my point of view, its main function is to keep 0 in our goal. Therefore if its main characteristic is based on this, I do not demand it for others in this aspect.
On the other hand, if the keeper has a good feet technique, I demand mental speed to resolve on tight and long spaces. If it has those characteristics, I use it as a sweeper to generate superiority. So it will be a key piece in the offensive game phase.
About of the defensive phase, I pretend a keeper with a correct posiotioning, effective defending the goal and with the mental stength to be determinant in the aerial balls. He has to know manage the time and the space and be aggressive in 1 vs 1 situation.
His height is so important, also his strenght and his speed reaction. He needs intuition and game read.
For those reasons the goalkeepers has to be psychologically strong, trusting in himself, present, active, con voice to command each situation and equilibrated against error and success.
